A faction of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has expelled its units at Daily Sangram, Naya Diganta, Weekly Sonar Bangla and Diganta Television as those media houses are run by Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The executive council of DUJ took the decision in an emergency meeting held on Sunday with its president Alahi Newaz Khan Saju in the chair.

The executive council took the decision as Jamaat and Shibir have been patronising militancy and are trying to carry out terrorist activities using the Jatiya Press Club premises, said a DUJ press release signed by its general secretary Khairul Alam Bakul.

The four media houses are run by those accused of committing crimes against humanity and the DUJ thinks keeping them as its members is not only unethical, but also against the spirit of Liberation War, the release added.
