?Gaariwala? strides into Hollywood

The super power of the world of motion pictures, the United States has now honoured a Bangladeshi movie at the center of its driving force, Hollywood. The movie 'Gaariwala' directed by Ashraf Shishir is now going to be the second Bangladeshi movie after Tareque Masud's 'Matir Moina' to be demonstrated and short listed in Hollywood. It will be screened in The CineRockom International Film Festival (CIFF) which started yesterday and runs until September 7. In the festival 'Gaariwala' director Ashraf Shishir has been nominated for the 'Best Director of Feature Film' category while Kabbo and Shaikh Maruf have been nominated for 'Best Young Artist' category. The festival based in Beverly Hills, California regularly organises its carnival in its neighbourhood in Hollywood, California; Las Vegas, Nevada and in Cannes, Hong Kong and London.
Apart from that while touring the United Stated 'Gaariwala' will take part in the Piton International Film Festival (PIFF), New Jersey (September 2 - 6), Benicia Film Festival, Benicia, California (September 4-6), OM Film Fest in Kansas City, Missouri (September 4 - 6) and the Moondance International Film Festival, Colorado (September 7-8). It will also be screened in the Ferfilm International Film Festival, Ferizaj in The republic of Kosovo (September 2-6).
Although 'Gaariwala' was previously selected for the North Carolina Film Festival, 7th Trenton Film Festival and 8th Columbia George International Film Festival held in USA this will be its first time in Hollywood. In the North Carolina Film Festival the movie received the best screenplay, best supporting actor and best child artiste award. In the 7th Trenton Film Festival the movie had beaten a total of 53 movies to win the 'Narrative Feature: Honourable Mention Award.'
'Gaariwala' features two young siblings, their mother who works at rice mill with severe illness, their missing rickshaw puller father and their indomitable dream. One day, the dauntless carefree brothers sell water lilies to buy old bearings, make their own car and win a race. Meanwhile in the city, one of them discovers their father with a new family and eventually their mother turns half-dead compelling the brothers to rush her to the hospital in the car.
The movie was financed by the government of Bangladesh and has a runtime of 86 minutes.
