A Dhaka Court on Tuesday asked Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to re-investigate the unnatural death (UD) case of popular actor Salman Shah.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jahangir Hossain passed the above order following a hearing on naraji petition submitted by Salman Shah's mother also the complainant of this case, Nilufar Chowdhury alias Nila Chowdhury. The court also ordered RAB to submit the probe report by April 12.
Salman Shah allegedly committed suicide at his Eskaton residence at Ramna in the capital on September 6, 1996. Immediately after his death, Salman's father Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury filed an Unnatural Death(UD) case with the Ramna Police station on the same day. At first the Ramna police, later the case was investigated by the then Assistant Commissioner (AC) Humayun Kabir of the Detective Branch (DB) Police.
Humayun Kabir submitted a report before the Court on February 4 in 1997 with an opinion that Salman committed suicide. Against the report the complainant submitted a naraji petition mentioning that this is a pre-planned murder In his naraji petition, he accused eight persons including victim Salman's wife Samira Haque.
Another youth arrested in this murder case, Rizvi made a confession before the first class magistrate on July 22 in 1997 that eight persons including businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai and her wife Samira were involved in this murder. Later the accused Rizvi disowned his confession before the police.
The detectives further submitted the final report in the case of death of the actor Salman. Against the final report the complainant submitted a plea before the court to turn the UD case to murder case.
