A suspected activist of the banned Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir sustained bullet injuries as police opened fire to disperse the group's procession at the Mohammadpur area in the capital on Friday
Later the injured was identified as Nafiz, 25, son of Abdus Salam of Mohammadpur.
Law enforcement agency said after the Juma prayers, all of a sudden a group of Tahrir activists brought a demonstration on Iqbal Road under Mohammadpur Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Division), Biplab Kumar Sarker, said that when police tried to resist them, the activists of the banned group swooped on the police force.
He also said that at one stage, police started firind rubber bullets to diffuse the mayhem created by the Tahrir activists that left Nafiz wounded, while his other accomplices fled from the scene.
